A scientific conference entitled “Supporting Sustainable Development through Basic Research” was held on December 15, 2025, at the NOESIS Science Center and Technology Museum in Thessaloniki, where the event was opened with a welcome address by the Director of HFRI, Dr. Kouravelou. The event focused on the presentation of research results from projects funded under the Action “Support for Basic and Applied Research” of the Recovery and Resilience Facility, including FERONIA.
The conference gathered researchers, project coordinators, and stakeholders from diverse scientific domains such as energy technologies, circular economy, catalysis, and bioprocess engineering. Introductory presentations outlined the objectives and achievements of the participating projects, followed by thematic sessions highlighting recent advances in sustainable energy systems and bio-based processes.
Within the framework of the FERONIA project, emphasis was placed on the sustainable valorization of orange processing waste through solid-state fermentation, highlighting its applications in food and feed production within a circular bioeconomy model. The event promoted scientific exchange, interdisciplinary dialogue, and the dissemination of innovative research outcomes contributing to sustainable development.
